Petrov Cetacean Report During the course of the National Seabed Survey berth space has been provided to researchers from the Coastal and Marine Resources Centre (CMRC) in Cork to carry out cetacean studies. During previous seabed mapping expeditions onboard the S.V. Bligh and S.V. Siren invaluable information on distribution, densities and relative abundances of cetaceans and seabirds was obtained, along with acoustic data on cetacean vocalisations (Aguilar et al., 2002).
The researchers also carried out duties of marine mammal observers (MMO) as outlined in the Joint Nature Conservation Committee's (JNCC) guidelines for minimising acoustic disturbance to marine mammals from seismic surveys. The information obtained over the survey period is presented in a comprehensive report. To view this report in full please click here: (pdf version, 4.6 megabytes)
